Friday February 23... Today was Museum day. First I went to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, which is very
excellent especially with the audio guide. In general for all museums, I recommend an audio guide because
they tell you so much about the piece and you get such a better understanding of the work, the artist, and
the context. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is excellent because it has one or two pieces of work from every
period of art: medieval to renaissance to impressionism to modern art. It's all here.
Afterwards, I walked to the Real Jardin Botanico. It was a very pretty park, even though most of trees were bare because
it was still winter. I sat down and read a book that I had, while enjoying the park because there
was lots of water, manmade lakes and fountains.
Then I went to the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, which I liked because of its collection of Picassos, Miros,
and Dalis. I did not go to the third of the big three museums in Madrid, the Prado, which does have the most
paintings of any museum in the world. Again I whimp out that night, and I have Burger King for dinner.
I did discover that I had pretty good timing, as the Carnavales of Madrid started that day. It was better than the
opening night of the Nice Carnaval. They had fireworks and more interesting costumes.
